Deep Run, ranked sixth in the DigitalSports Top 10, defeated Douglas Freeman 2-0 in Wednesday night’s game.
Wildcats junior forward Amy Turner scored two goals in the victory.
The first goal came with 15 minutes left in the first half, when junior defender Grace Seal sent a long ball down the sideline to a running Turner who was able to chip Douglas Freeman goalkeeper Megan MacLean to go up 1-0.
Deep Run came dangerously close to scoring several more times with some good runs up front by sophomore forward Rachel Powers, who found herself behind the Rebel defense many times but was unable to finish on goal.
It did not take long for Turner to find the back of the net a second time.
Just eight minutes into the second half, Turner beat a Rebel defender at the top of the box and fired a shot into the goal to take a 2-0 lead.
“A lot of my players played great,” Turner said. “They played some great through balls and I was able to run onto them and hit them in the net.”
Douglas Freeman tried to push numbers forward towards the end of the game but could not get any chances on goal as Deep Run would take the win.
