Softball: Cosby Over Hanover

The Cosby Titans defeated the Hanover Hawks 2-1 in Tuesday night’s Central Region quarterfinal game at Hanover.

Second baseman Megan Bell-Hill smacked a two-run triple in the top of the third inning bringing in Heather Sink and Brittney Burgess to take a 2-0 lead which would be all the Titans would need.

Hanover’s only run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Courtney Long’s RBI single.

Cosby pitcher Whitney Haller was outstanding on the mound as she allowed only five hits and struck out 15.

Lisa Puryear also pitched a good game for the Hawks, striking out six and only allowing six hits.

Baseball: James River Too Much For Hanover

James River proved to be too much for Hanover in Tuesday night’s Central Region quarterfinal showdown at Hanover High School.

The James River Rapids defeated the Hanover Hawks 4-0 due to some excellent pitching by the Rapids’ Daniel Marrs, who threw six innings of shut out ball.

The Rapids scored their first run of the game in the top of the second inning.

Ian Harvey’s RBI single brought in Jack Cleary.

The Rapids scored again in the top of the sixth and seventh innings scoring three more runs.

Marrs was able to knock in a run in the sixth with a single bringing in Austin McGowan to go up 2-0.

Immediately after, Michael Granger took home off of a wild pitch thrown by Hanover’s Jake Mayers to put the Rapids up three.

The final run of the game was scored by the Rapids in the top of the seventh inning.

McGowan hit an RBI single off of Hanover’s Aaron Adkins bringing in Garret Bardenheirer.
