ASSIST Student Athletes 75, Change 64
* In its second year in the Tri-City Summer League, ASSIST Student Athletes got their first victory Thursday night to keep Change winless. It took a while, but ASSIST founder and coach William Duron Carter sees progress.

“It is like an adventure,” Carter said. “Just getting the young guys together. Getting them motivated and letting them be competitive in this grueling, this tough Tri-City Summer League.”

Aaron Mitchell (Matoaca) led ASSIST with 22 points, and Ed Young (George Wythe) dropped 20 points for the second straight night. Dazmond Starke (Highland Springs) added eight points. For Change, Trey Mines put in 20 points, Virginia Union product Buster Perkins scored 12 and Donte Hammonds (Wythe) and Anthony Sally (Chesterfield Community) put in 10 each.

* Mike Anderson scored 21 points to lead T&C. David Gonzalvez (17 points), Tim Black (15) and Glen Dandridge (11) also reached double figures for T&C. BYC’s leading scorer was Karon Johnson, who scored 22 points. Petersburg alum Herb Jones added 14 and former TJ star Mario Turner had seven.

Wallace Express 98, McDonald & Associates 87
* Tarik Wallace struggled in the first two games from the field, but got back to his normal self Thursday, erupting for a game-high 28 points to lead Wallace Express. Bo Jones Jr. stayed hot, putting in 22 points. He’s been over 20 in every contest for 3-0 Express. T.J. Grimes (Hampden-Sydney alum) scored 21 points, Robert Johnson had 12 and Len Williams 10.

Ted Berry led McDonald & Associates with 27 points, Avis Wyatt added 23 points with some monstrous dunks and blocks, and Luqman Jaaber had 12.
