All-everything wide receiver Monty Smalley committed to Old Dominion Monday.
“I connected with the campus as soon as I got there,” Smalley said of his official visit this past weekend. “The coaching staff is just great there. I can tell they really care about their players.”
What a player Douglas Freeman’s 5-8, 160-pounder was. He blasted a Douglas Freeman record with 56 catches.
Smalley had almost 900 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, including two receptions that went 90 yards or more, one against Hermitage (98 yards) and one versus Highland Springs, two of the Central Region’s stingiest defenses.
“My goal was to play college football,” Smalley said. “I had to do everything I could to make that. Every time I got the ball I tried to make a play. It’s turned out well so far.”
