Thomas Dale plated eight runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-5 win over Matoaca in baseball Tuesday evening.
The Warriors, ranked third in the latest DigitalSports Top 10, had all kinds of trouble, putting Knight after Knight on base as fourth-ranked Dale took advantage.
Matoaca walked 12 Dale batters and had seven errors, uncharacteristic of Fred Stoots‘ team.
“When you let a good team get base runners they make you pay for it,” Stoots said. “They played well and executed and we didn’t.”
Matoaca outhit Dale 9-5, receiving three RBI from Logan Walker. But the miscues and Bill Cullen‘s seven strikeouts paced Dale to the important Central District triumph, including Brendan Schnell‘s three RBI for the Knights.
“We always try to play hard against Matoaca,” Cullen said. “They’re just our rivals. Ever since day one, my freshman year, we’ve been always trying to beat them for the district title.”
