Football, 6/22/10: Dinwiddie’s Marshall, Hall commit

Dinwiddie continued its offseason gridiron success as two of its best players committed to Virginia Tech to play football this week.

First was quarterback Chris Hall on Monday.

The 6-4, 230-pound quarterback will play tight end with the Hokies and will not enroll until January 2012. Hall had two other offers from Virginia and Marshall. The Thundering Herd wanted him as a signal caller.

Next was Corey Marshall, a 6-2, 240-pound defensive end that was high on big-time program’s lists, including Tech, Virginia, Michigan and West Virginia, to name a few.

Ranked in the top 20 in the nation by position by some recruiting services, the rising senior is a big coup for the Hokies, who pride themselves on nabbing the best in the state.

Marshall is one of the best 2011 prospects in the Central Region, right up there with Hermitage’s Curtis Grant, the top player in the nation at outside linebacker.

Marshall, a two-time all-DigitalSports pick, will enroll in the fall of 2011 after his senior year with Dinwiddie is complete.

A 2009 graduate for the Generals, Pierre Hawkes, has also earned a Division I spot. The cornerback went to New Mexico Institute after helping the Generals to the state Group AAA, Division 5 final.

He took a chance at the junior college and found the spot he wanted all along, according to Generals coach Billy Mills – Liberty University.

“After a year of growth, he has got the opportunity to go where he wanted out of college,” Mills wrote in an email.

The Generals have had a tremendous run in putting football players in school since Mills has taken over.
